From the Classroom to a Professional Film Set Budapest Film Academy is a film school in Europe that emphasizes hands-on filmmaking experience through real film productions. Rather than focusing solely on classroom instruction, students have the opportunity to work alongside professional directors, cinematographers, producers, editors, and crew members, developing practical filmmaking skills while building valuable industry connections.
Former Budapest Film Academy student Gábor Pethő recently joined the crew of the latest feature film directed by filmmaker and BFA founder Jenő Hódi. The production provided a unique opportunity to experience the realities of independent filmmaking, from long shooting days and technical challenges to creative collaboration with experienced film industry professionals.

For aspiring filmmakers, these experiences offer valuable insight into how a professional film production operates and help bridge the gap between film education and a future career in the motion picture industry. Opportunities like these are one of the reasons why Budapest Film Academy has become a recognized film school in Europe for students seeking practical, industry-focused training.
Working on active productions enables students to build their portfolios, expand their professional networks, and gain the confidence needed to pursue careers in directing, screenwriting, cinematography, producing, editing, and other areas of filmmaking.
Shortly after filming wrapped, Gábor Pethő sent the following letter to Jenő Hódi, reflecting on his experience and the impact that working on a professional movie set had on him.

Dear Jenő,
Today I had to come back to Budapest again to return a few things to the rental company, and the whole way my mind was filled with memories of the past five days. I had a lump in my throat whenever I recalled those moments. I experienced so many things during these five days. It feels strange now that it’s over. I had the chance to be among fantastic people, which will remain a lifelong memory. I don’t think I can even fully grasp it yet.
Watching you work, and watching Tamás work, is something truly invaluable! I know there is still work ahead, and I’m really looking forward to it. I want to do everything that remains to the best of my ability. As much as possible, I would like to see every stage of the process that comes next, document them, and in the end create something complete out of all of it.
I hope that later in my life I will have the chance to experience similar things again. Even if perhaps I discovered it a bit late, now that I’m over forty, it has become one hundred percent clear to me that this is what truly feels good to do — this is what I want to do. No matter how long and difficult the days were, I can only say good things about the past week.
I sincerely look forward to continuing, and until then I wish you good health!
